2010/2011 Kia Soul and Sorento models recalled in Canada

Kia Canada recalling 2010/2011 Soul and Sorento models to fix possible faulty wiring that could start fires.

Kia Canada announced a recall has been issued for the 2010 Soul and 2011 Sorento crossover vehicles due to defective wiring harnesses that could short and lead to a fire.

According to the company’s press release, only about 4,500 units of Soul and Sorento crossover vehicles are involved in the recall.

This includes 3,295 Kia Soul compact crossovers for the 2010 model year and 1,213 Sorento crossover vehicles for the 2011 model year.

Owners of the affected Kia models will be notified to bring their cars to their local dealerships who will replace the wiring harnesses for the lighting systems free of charge.

Kia Canada says that it is unaware of any cases or issues involving wiring problems here despite the recall.

  1. I just heard that President of Kia Motors back in South Korea resigned because of this global mess. Globally, around 89,000 vehicles were recalled of Soul, Sorento and Cadenza, and from an automaker striving for that world-class perfect quality, this was a huge deal.

  2. Yeah, and the majority of it was caused by a faulty product from an American-based distributor. If I was Kia, I would file suit against them.

  3. It figures-and yes, Greg, filing suit would indeed be appropriate if the product was mis-built by the American-based distributor.

  4. Jci is a huge company, they supply millions of components world wide. Remember, Kia tested their products and knew the specs before they even put those door panels in their cars and cuvs. No govt. made them do the recall. This is what happens when a auto manufacturer realizes it mistake. Good for Kia and JCi will have to fork out alot of money for this recall too.

  5. I had a 1986 Mercury Lynx SW that sort of popped itself into a fire when I cranked it over one cold Everett, WA, evening. I started off down State St. in north Everett, heading south. By the time I hit Walnut St., a tad ta the west, she was flickering up above the steering column and I could start ta smell the smoke. I blew out the fire, continued down the road, and it just went “poof” and flickered up again! I pulled over as soon as I saw a payphone on Everett Ave. and called the Everett Fire Dept. No cellphones in 1992. They were there in about 4 minutes. Swoosh! The water hit my steering column and anything else in the way, and it was doused out in about 15 seconds max. Took it to Brien Fordtown in Everett for repairs. $1,545 later ($434 my wife and I had to pay, PEMCO Insurance wouldn’t cover the part that caused it, that was Ford’s faulty wiring harness in the steering column). The rest our auto insurance covered. It was way out of the new car Merc Warranty by 1992, unfortunately. There was a Ford-Mercury Lynx/Escort recall the next year (to help everyone else out with this faulty part) …we traded it in 1994 for a new ’94 Ford Escort SW in Brilliant Blue. I still love the color of the Escort SW. Good rig, kept it 3 years-it only gave us trouble one time-blew out an exhaust manifold, covered under the scanty 1994 Ford new car Warranty, thankfully.

  6. Greg, where were the harness’s actually built? Hecho en Mexico? Malaysia? Korea? China? someone got cheap and used the wrong solder I bet..

  7. I have to say…..I love my Kia Soul Plus……Its fantastic!!!! BUT,,,Buyer Beware!!!!! My Experience with BROWN-DAUB KIA in Easton,PA……..has been….welll…The staff there are deceiving…Practicing illegal and unethical buisnees “practices”….just to make the sale….. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BUY A NEW CAR, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND A “KIA model”. But…Please please dont complicate your life going to Brown-Daub Kia in Easton,PA.

  8. Will there be a list of VIN #’s published so we know if we are affected? I have a Kia Soul but I didn’t buy it from a Kia dealership.

  9. The brake lights frequently stay on after I exit my 2010 KIA Soul+. Anyone else have this problem?
