2011 Kia Sportage safety: Top Safety Pick by Insurance Institute For Highway Safety
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Picks 2011 Kia Sportage crossover vehicle as the 2010 Top Safety Pick!
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS, has chosen the 2011 Kia Sportage crossover vehicle -CUV as the 2010 Top Safety Pick in the category of small crossover vehicles.
The ratings were based on side, frontal, rear, and rollover-including roof strength, tests for safety in an impact crash. The rating of “Good” is the highest rating achievable and the 2011 Kia Sportage safety record proves this.
Ratings from the Institute are based on results from frontal, side and rear impact crash tests, and for 2010 a good performance in a roof strength test – to measure protection in a rollover – also was required to win.
Each vehicle’s overall evaluation was based on various measurements specific to each crash angle, and overall impact on crash test dummies inside the vehicle at the time of collision. All vehicles must have electronic stability control available to be eligible.
The 2011 Kia Sportage has joined the Soul crossover, Forte compact sedan, 2011 Sorento compact crossover utility vehicle and Sedona minivan which have all been named a “Top Safety Pick” by the US-based IIHS before. Kia Sedona minivan was the very first Kia vehicle in the States that won prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick award.
This was achieved back in 2006.
Like any other Kia car, the 2011 Sportage crossover is also equipped with a large number of standard safety features.
Both trims () come outfitted with driver and passenger advanced front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and side-curtain airbags.
The 2011 Sportage is also equipped with front active headrests, four-wheel Antilock Brake System ABS, ESC system, Electronic Brake Distribution -EBD, Tire Pressure Monitoring System -TPMS and Brake Assist System -BAS. There are also Downhill Brake Control -DBC and Hill Start Assist Control -HAC available on both Sportage trims.
Also a 20% higher resale value to go with outstanding crash test.
I know this doesn’t relate to the topic, but the Mohave topic is years old and I’ll never find it… I just talked to our dealer switchboard operator (takes all the incoming phone calls and directs them to who they need to speak with) and she said they constantly hear questions about when will Kia come out with a truck; they’ll buy the truck when it comes out, etc. They don’t want an SUV or van. They like the open area of the truck bed. Anyone know how to light a fire under Kia’s keister about this?!

PS: Congrats about the 2011 Sportage IIHS choice!

😀
Jason, my answer would be if Toyota can’t sell pickups very well in the US than Kia probably can not too.
I’m just repeating what I’ve heard personally, and second hand from salesmen and the operator (who said they get calls all the time about it). I also frequently heard “Why do you drive a Chevy truck to deliver Kia parts?!” They don’t know that Kia doesn’t have a truck in the USA. I’m pretty sure basing a truck on the Borrego frame would work, being Body On Frame, etc…
We CONSTANTLY get that question too, living in Michigan, land of pick-up trucks and huge SUVs. I really wish Kia would come out with a pick-up. It would go pretty well with their sporty image, I think. Kia would need to make it actually competitive with the F150 and the Silverado, though. Now that HKAG has that 5.0L V8, though, I think it would be good. The best selling vehicle in the US is the F150. If Kia did what they did with the Sorento with a pick-up (make it best looking and give it good features and price) then they would have a winner.
The 2011 Kia Sportage also earned EuroNcap 5 star safety rating.
Kia and Hyundai surpassed safety technology of Nissan/Infiniti.

Oops. Kia sportage was not testes at Euroncap yet.
However, mechanial twin, Hyundai Tucson (ix35 in europe) earned EuroNCAP 5 star result.
So i guess sportage also will earn maximum 5 star of euroncap safety.
