Kia aims to sell 40,000 Sportage SUVs in China

Kia has commenced the production of new Sportage SUV in China.

The South Korean second largest automaker revealed it held an official launching ceremony for the all-new Sportage in China at Shenzhen’s Intercontinental Hotel last week.

The ceremony was attended by CEO Jeong Eui-seon and many other high ranking Kia officials, as well as Chinese media.

The production of the new Sportage began this month at Kia’s factory in Dongfeng Yueda in Yangcheng City of Jiangsu province. Kia aims to sell almost 9,000 units of the SPortage SUV by the end of the year and plans to increase it to 40,000 next year.

The Sportage, which went on sales just recently, lifted up the number of Kia models available in China to five. The range includes Kia Pride, Cerato, Optima, and Carnival minivan.

“With improvements in income and quality of life in China, SUV sales are on a steep rise.

The new Kia Sportage launched in China is tailored for Chinese customers and will be the force behind Kia’s comeback in the Chinese auto market,” said a Kia insider.
