Kia Niro Crash Test Video & Safety Ratings

The Kia Niro hybrid recently went through its crash tests with EuroNCAP, and the results have now been released by the European safety testing organization.

It’s good news for Kia, as the compact crossover scored a 5-star safety rating.

The scores, with optional safety equipment added to the new Kia Niro, were as follows: 91% for adult occupant protection, 80% for child occupant safety, 70% for pedestrian safety, and 81% for Safety Assist.

With standard equipment in place, the scores dropped to 83% for adult protection, 57% for pedestrian protection, and 59% for Safety Assist.

Kia Niro Crash TestThe complete details of the Kia Niro crash tests are listed below.

Kia Niro adult protection

In the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment remained stable, with dummy readings showing that the knees and femurs of the passenger and driver had good protection.

Kia were able to show that those same results would be achieved with passengers of different sizes and seating positions. Good or adequate results for the driver were delivered in the full-width frontal impact test.

The Niro picked up maximum points in the side barrier and side pole impact tests, with good protection offered to all critical areas of the body.

Good protection was also the rest of the rear-end collision test, which looks at head restraints and whiplash injuries in the front seat. When the same test was run for the rear seats, the results were that marginal protection was delivered.

When the optional Advanced Driving Assistance Pack is added to the Niro, extra whiplash protection is assured. The pack included the autonomous emergency braking system, which did particularly well in the EuroNCAP tests.

Child safety in Kia Niro

The 10-year dummy received good protection in the fontal test, except for the neck, where it was found that protection was adequate.

A good score was given to both dummies in the side impact test, where the Niro picked up maximum points. The passenger airbag in front can be disabled when a rearward facing child seat is placed up front.

The vehicle clearly lets the driver know when the airbag has been disabled, which scored points for the Niro. All of the child restraints that the Niro is designed for could be properly installed.

A standard seatbelt reminder is in pace for the front and rear seats in the Niro.

A lane assistance system that warns the driver of lane drifting is standard, as is a speed limiter that can be set by the driver.

The aforementioned autonomous braking system scored well in tests, and was able to avoid impacts in a number of different scenarios, whilst also reducing the speed of impact in other tests it was used in.

Conclusion

None of this should really come as a surprise to those of you who closely follow what Kia are up to.

The Koreans have put a major emphasis on safety into all of their models, and they continue to work hard to develop new safety features that will make their cars among the safest on the road.

Blue Kia Sportage – Is It Available In 2018

Is there a blue Kia Sportage on sale in US?

Yes it is, let’s have a look.

Safety features, technology, and a stunning design are all part of the make-up of the new-generation Kia Sportage CUV.

This is a model that has become consistently better with each passing generation, and it may very well be one of the best value propositions that Kia has in their lone-up.

Kia have always done a great job of making sure that consumers have a number of different options with each of the models that they deliver, and that includes making sure that there are plenty of exterior colors to choose from.

2018 Kia Sportage Pacific blue

Kia Sportage Pacific BlueOf all the available Kia Sportage colors, it may be the Pacific Blue option that is the most unique.

The 2018 Kia Sportage in Pacific Blue color delivers a shade of blue that is perhaps quite unlike anything that you may have seen before.

This is a color that is undeniably blue, but there are going to be time when you look at it, perhaps in certain angles or lights, and you will see what looks like a color more like violet.

Automakers always want to deliver something that is unique, especially in such a crowded segment, and this blue Kia Sportage is definitely one that is sure to stand out.

This is a color that really needs to be seen in person, but until you can get into your local Kia dealership, please take a look at the picture of Kia Sportage Pacific Blue shown above.

Is There A Silver Kia Sportage Available In 2018

The 2018 Kia Sportage is available in silver color, called Mineral Silver.

Let’s have a look.

The Sportage has always been a vehicle that gets a lot of positive attention, but the fourth generation version of the compact crossover vehicle is set to turn more heads than ever before.

Kia have raised the bar in the segment, with more standard features, upgraded technology, and a design that is both aggressive and sporty looking.

While these are all very important parts of the decision making process, you can also bet that many consumers interested in this vehicle are going to be looking at the 2018 Kia Sportage colors.

Kia Sportage In Mineral Silver colorThere are 8 different color options to choose from, but few as class looking as the Kia Sportage in Mineral Silver color.

Kia Sportage Mineral Silver

Let’s take a little bit of a closer look at what that particular hue looks like.

When you hear silver being mentioned as an exterior color, you might imagine a vehicle that is going to be a little brighter.

This particular Kia Sportage silver color is not what you would imagine at all, and is in fact a darker color that is closer to a shade of gray than anything else.

It’s a perfect option for those who don’t want to go as dark as the black option available for the Sportage AWD, but who also don’t want a Kia vehicle that is lighter in color.

The Mineral Silver exterior color perfectly slots in the middle, which is likely to make it a very popular option.

To get a better look at this particular option, take a look at the picture of Kia Sportage Mineral Silver above.

Kia GAP Insurance – 10 Things You Should Know

Questions and answers about the Kia Gap insurance coverage.

Note: This blog post about the GAP insurance for Kia cars is for guidance only and is not a substitute for reviewing a summary of cover or policy wording.

1. Why do you need a Kia GAP insurance?

If your insurers declare your Kia car a “write-off” or “total loss” after a serious accident, fire or theft there may be a “gap” between the settlement offer and the amount you paid or the finance outstanding. The insurance covers this gap.

Kia GAP insurance coverage2. Can anyone buy GAP insurance?

Policy holders must be over 18 years of age and live in the US. Cover is also available to US-registered companies, as well as individuals.

3. Is cover available on any car?

There are some restrictions. GAP insurance is available on cars up to 9 years old and with a value up to £50,000. The mileage must be under 90,000 miles. The car must be covered by a comprehensive motor car insurance policy.

4. Why is there a shortfall in my insurer’s offer?

Not all car insurance policies offer “new for old” cover. If they do, it is in very limited circumstances – usually only if the car becomes a total loss within 12 months of registration.

After that, the valuation offer will be the market value, taking into account depreciation, mileage, body & mechanical condition and many other variables.

5. What does Kia gap insurance cover?

For up to 36 months (or 3 years) Kia GAP insurance covers the difference between the insurer’s total loss settlement offer and the invoice purchase price after any discount.

Extras like car insurance or the cost of transferring a cherished number plate are not covered. Road tax and delivery charges are covered for new cars only.

6. What if I had car finance?

No problem. For up to 60 months (or 5 years) Kia GAP Insurance covers the difference between the insurer’s total loss settlement offer and the balance outstanding on your finance agreement. Arrears and any interest on them are not covered.

7. Will Kia GAP Insurance cover my policy excess?

Yes, if you are unable to recover it from anyone else the GAP insurance policy will cover it. Normally you will try to recover your policy excess from the party responsible for the accident.

8. Will the cover apply if I take my car abroad?

Yes. The cover remains in force whilst the car is in the UK, Isle of Man, Channel Islands or the European Economic Area. This is likely to be the same geographical area as your comprehensive car insurance policy.

9. What are the main exclusions?

American cars are generally excluded unless they were originally built as right-hand drive and bought through an authorized US dealer. Private imports are not covered.

Also, cars used commercially, such as taxis or private hire vehicles are excluded. Emergency vehicles and other vehicles such as trucks, motorhomes, motorcycles caravans and trailers are not covered.

10. Does Kia GAP Insurance cover VAT?

If you are not VAT-registered, the VAT element of the invoice is covered. However, if you are VAT –registered the VAT element is not covered by the GAP car insurance as it will be offset against your VAT liabilities.

2017 Kia Ceed TCR Race Car

There are already a number of major automakers contesting the TCR series, and Kia are about to throw their hat into the ring with this great looking cee’d race car.

Austrian based STARD have been tapped by Kia to develop the 2017 cee’d TCR.

The regulations set in place by TCR dictate that the model have a production bodyshell with an extended width up to 76.77 inches, as well as extensions to the fender.

4-cylinder turbo engines that generate up to 330-hp are used, with a 2.0-liter capacity being the norm.

That said, Kia may opt for a 1.6-liter engine used in the cee’d GT model. It is possible to use sequential gearboxes, but a weight penalty is assessed for those.

Total Kia cee’d TCR car cost is capped at $101,000.

The regulations in place are all based on the SEAT Leon Cup car that is most commonly used in TCR.

Other automakers who have approved cars are VW, Opel, Honda, and Peugeot.

Independent teams have also been known to use Subaru and Alfa Romeo models.

STARD CEO Michael Sakowicz is delighted with the progress being made with the Kia cee’d over the last few months, and he believes that they will have a very competitive car on their hands when all is said and done.

He spoke about the schedule being on project, and also being very much in line with the strict guidelines laid down by Kia at the start of the partnership.

We can expect to see the finished article unveiled in September, just in time for delivery for the 2017 TCR season.

This is a vehicle that is equally at home as an everyday ride, as well as being a weekend adventure ride.

It’s a vehicle that demands to be driven, and that usually means putting some wear and tear on the tires as you go.

It’s always a good idea to have a spare handy, just in case of emergencies, and the genuine factory Kia Sportage spare tire kit ensures that you will be covered until such times as you can get a full size new tire in place.

Please keep in mind that this Sportage tire kit is only meant to be a temporary solution until such times as you are able to get a full sized spare tire in place.

It will serve you well for short distances, but is not a tire that should be considered a permanent solution.

Why People Prefer To Import Japanese And Asian Cars

If you are interested in purchasing and importing a Japanese or Asian car into the US but are unsure how to purchase a car from there then you have come to the right place.

We will share with you exactly how to buy a used car as well as the steps needed to import it into the US.

A lot of individuals in Western countries prefer importing Japanese or Asian vehicles directly from source for a variety of reasons.

Although the process can be extensive, expensive and risky, the benefits from importing a vehicle from Japan and Asia are far more than the risks that are involved.

JDM Cars

Japanese Domestic Market” vehicles, JDM for short, are vehicles which Japanese manufacturers have produced exclusively for the Japanese market.

These vehicles are often quite rare and may even include the limited editions of popular cars which can be very difficult to source outside of Japan.

Being able to own one of these JDM models is one of the reasons people like to import Japanese cars, it is a great feeling to know that their vehicle is rare in their particular location.

The condition of JDM vehicles is another popular reason behind Japan imports and the rise of JDM Importers.

Many Western countries experience adverse weather conditions that overtime tend to wear and tear on a vehicle.

Grit and salt is often used during harsh winters to increase the traction and safety of a road, however salt is an extremely corrosive agent which as time goes by, brings about rust and a variety of other structural problems with a vehicle.

In Japan, salt is never used on the roads, so generally a counterpart vehicle in Japan will have less corrosion and rust than a western vehicle will.

Things to Consider

prius_plug-in_hybrid-11-09-04-iaa-by-ralfr-108

Prices! Remember this process is not a cheap one.

The Japanese Yen, since 2013 is stronger than it has ever been before, and the fees and taxes that accompany importing a vehicle can be enormous, generally around thirty percent of the coat of the vehicle will go to VAT and Tax alone!

We are not even including shipping fees, customs fees, registration fees etc.

Prior to importing your Japanese car, it is recommended that you look around for insurance quoted on the particular vehicle you have in mind.

It is common knowledge that a vehicle which have been imported, not just from Japan, will have insurance premiums which are higher when you use your popular and well known insurance companies.

There are even insurance companies who will straight out refuse coverage of any vehicles that have been imported.

That being said, there are various US based  companies who specialize in insuring vehicles which have been imported, so make sure you shop around until you find the ideal price for you.

As a final note, is it necessary for you to import a vehicle? I know it may seem obvious, there are many vehicles which have already been imported into the US.

Maybe you may have a hard time finding the specific car you want, however if you check out a few owners clubs and visit some specialist websites you may find a vehicle that matches your preferences and is already here. (photo source: wikipedia)

Canada: Kia Soul Turbo Getting 1,6L T-GDI Engine, Sportier Appearance

We have a big exclusive here, and it comes in the form of leaked documents that share details of the upcoming 2017 Kia Soul.

We already know that a facelift is on the way for this model, and we have seen some very early spy pictures.

The styling of the car will essentially remain the same, but we can expect changes to the trim levels, color options, and powertrain technology.

Let’s take a closer look at the Canadian-market 2017 Kia Soul changes:

Kia Soul Canada

Turbo engine, DCT: Longtime fans of the Soul will be delighted to heat that a turbo engine is going to be introduced.

That will be the same 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbo found on the top spec Kia Forte 5 models.

No official word on the power output, although the Forte 5 cranks out 201-hp.

This turbo engine will undergo a first in that it will be mated to Kia’s 7-speed DCT. This higher level of performance will mean the addition of larger front brakes.

New colors: There are some new exterior colors to talk about, too, including an orange exterior color that we think looks really cool.

New brown and blue colors will replace the existing ones, while the ever popular Solar Yellow, Inferno Red, Alien Green, and a few others will stick around for 2017.

Accessories: The aforementioned engine is sure to give the 2017 Kia Soul a sportier ride, but it will also be getting some new accessories that will help punctuate that sporty style.

Some of the features that are sure to really pop include dual exhaust, sport bumpers, 18-inch sports alloy wheels, sport side sills, and a sports grille.

These should be more than enough to create a whole new look for the Soul without taking away from its iconic design.

There is even more, though, as the sportier Soul will also have other available items, such as D-shaped steering wheel, leather/cloth combo sports seats, and a flashy new instrument cluster.

This is sure to be big news for those of you who are looking for a Soul that is devoted to driving performance.

All of the features listed here are for the Canadian spec model of the 2017 Soul, which is expected to hit the market in December.

We expect that the US model will get all the same goodies.

Watch this space for even more news coming soon!

2018 Kia Rio Release Date, Teaser Shots, News

The next generation 2018 Kia Rio, currently in development with the YB internal code name, is just around the corner.

And Kia is teasing us with look of the fourth generation model by releasing some official image renderings.

This is good news for those of us who have grown a little tired of seeing the 2018 Rio spy shots of the vehicle in camouflage.

While we won’t actually get to see the real thing until the Paris Motor Show in late September, the official 2018 Kia Rio redesign renders have more than enough details to get us a little excited about the new look.

2018 Kia Rio teaser shots

2017 Kia Rio 5There is a more aggressive look to the front end, courtesy of a longer hood and a new headlight set-up.

The lights have one projector for high and low beam situated right by the turn signal. LED DRL’s sit above the projectors, helping add to that aggressive new face.

The grille is still as large as always, but the fog lights have been given a new shape.

Around back, it looks as though newly shaped LED taillights are now in place.

The side mirrors have been moved to the bottom of the A-pillar, and the C-pillar has an updated look.

The upcoming 2018 Kia Rio will come with a host of new safety and connectivity features on board.

Most of the design work for the new model took place at the design centers in California and Germany, but there was also some input from the Koreans too.

Production will begin towards the end of this year, while the announcement about the 2018 Rio release date in other regions is set for the official launch event.

Kia Rio 2018 engine, specs

There is no word yet on the powertrain for this version of the Rio, but the smart money would have it being the 1.6-liter GDi engine.

There are some rumors of a new forced induction engine being a possibility, and there’s also talk of a 1.4-liter turbo engine.

We will give you all the news about the new Kia Rio 2018 – model year – as we get it.
