Kia USA Announces December 2013 Sales
Kia Motors America released their sales report for the month of December 2013.
According to the report, Kia saw its sales fall sharply last month.
The company managed to move 33,631 units, down approximately 14 percent from a year ago, as their three best-selleing models posted quite a significant sales decreases.
Inspite of overall drop in sales (Kia recorded sales of 535,179 for the year), the 2013 was still the company’s second best year since it’s arrival to the States in mid 90s.
Kia’s Top-Sellers in December 2013
For the second straight year the Optima mid-size sedan was KMA’s top-selling model.
The Optima’s December sales totaled 9,474 units, while year-to-date sales have hit an all time high 155,893 units.
Taking second and third sport last month were the Sorento and Soul crossovers with 7,482 and 6,345 units sold, respectively.
Kia Soul, the company’s iconic small crossover vehicle, has had another strong year with 118,079 units sold, while Sorento CUV achieved a slightly lower figure of 105,649 units.
Other Kia models, including the all-new Forte, Rio, Sportage and Cadenza posted mixed results in 2013.
The 2014 Kia Forte, which won several compact car comparison tests and received a number of highly-coveted automotive awards last year, has posted a sharp decrease in sales.
Its year-to-date sales have fallen 12.5% compared to 2012.
The Sportage ended the year quite strong with monthly sales on a slight increase after its 2014 refresh two months ago. Slower first half sales performance has prevented it to achieve the last year’s sales figures.
Kia Rio has never been a real hot-seller in the USA, although it could be as it is one of the best-looking cars in the segment. The sub-compact model has, however, improved its overall year-to-date sales from a year ago.
The Cadenza has got to a good start selling around 1,000 units per months, while the Sedona minivan sales decreased due to the fact that many families are waiting for the 2015 model to arrive.
According to Kia, the 2015 Sedona will be officially launched in the USA already this year. Latest rumours suggest that the U.S. sales will commence in the third quarter of 2014.
