Kia Forte Sets Best-Ever Single Month Sales In March
As we now spring into April, we can look back at the sales numbers posted by Kia Motors America in the month of March 2016.
All told, the Koreans sold 58,279 units in the US last month, which is a slight dip in sales over the same period in 2015.
It’s not all bad news, though, as Kia’s first quarter sales hit an all-time high of 146,321 units.
The opening quarter of the year was highlighted by double digit sales gains by the Sportage crossover, the Forte compact car line-up, and the Sedona MVP.
Let’s now take a closer look at how all the models in the Kia line-up fared.
Kia sales by model – March 2016
The Forte compact car led the way for Kia during the month of March in terms of sales increases, posting total sales of 10,406 units, which was a significant jump from the previous years total of 7,537 units.
It’s not a real shock that the Kia Soul once again led the way in sales, with a little over 12,000 units sold in March.
That number is all the more impressive when you realize that a refreshed model will be hitting the market for the 2017 model year.
The Optima sedan and the Sorrento SUV slipped in behind the Soul in sales, with both models taking a bit of a hit.
The Optima sold 11,725 units, while the Sorento came in at 9,897 units.
Kia has to hope that April will prove to be a rebound month for both of those models, as they have been consistent sellers for the Koreans since their release.
The Sedona minivan and Sportage crossover both saw significant sales gains, which helped offset some of the losses delivered by the other two.
Sales of the Rio subcompact remained almost identical to last year, while the Cadenza premium sedan dropped from 783 units sold in March 2015 to 593 units this year.

That’s very outstanding on the Forte because the new Civic just came out.
I remeber the days when Kia sold an adverage of 1000 Sephias a month. Now look over 50k units a month. That’s amazing.
Is there any enhanced Forte coming from Kia?
When is Optima GT 2.0 turbo launching in Singapore?
It seems new models to S’pore are very slow.
Kia has got ta come out with an enhanced Forte. This one is long in the tooth. Don’t know anything about the Optima GT 2.0 Turbo. Would love ta hear more about the new Kia GT RWD sporty 4-door they’re working on right now.
Forte sales have been up due to increased supply, which should increase further once the Mexico plant gets running.
Optima sales are down in part due to the changeover for the hybrid, but shouldn’t be this much down (maybe incentives down on the Optima for the month?).
Hopefully, the new Cadenza will more than double sales (getting the hybrid this time would help).
Basically waiting for the next gen model of the K900.
Need greater supply of the Sportage.
Think Kia will be happy once Santa Fe Sport production starts at Hyundai’s AL plant (may allow Kia to produce more Sorentos in lieu of the SF Sport).
Would like to see the Sedona hit the 5k mark (Kia should think about doing a hybrid version).
