Next year will be a record breaker too. I have high hopes with the Soul, Borrego, maybe the next spectra and a Sports coupe in the works. I belive Kia will surpass hyundai for US Sales sooner than expected. Hyundai is going for a more expensive market and with Kia aiming for sporty and fun, with cars like the Soul, Kia will soon be inthe spot light.
Yeah, the new Soul will probably become a Korean hit in America! And together with new Spectra coming soon, which will be as good as the cee’d, there is a bright future for Kia in the coming years.
The vehicle that really keeps Kia sales high is Rondo. It is selling above expectations. I think Kia wanted to sell about 20.000 units of it this year, but they will manage to do more. On the other hand there are Amanti and Sorento with very poor sales numbers. What a shame, those two are still very good cars!
yeah, the Amanti has way too much competition here in the US, vehicles like the Chrysler 300, new Taurus, Sable, Maxima, just to name a few. The Amanti is a great under rated sedan. Christ, it is the consumer reports best buy for 2008 in its class, but it falls short with overall apeal here. It is trying to hard to be luxury, Kia is not luxury here in the US.
The Sorento needs a facelift in order to stay fresh. It has been the same overall for 6 years. I think with everyone having redesigned the past couple of years the Sorento was left behind.
Yes, The Rondo. It sold very very very well this year. Dodge has seen this and they are bringing out a CUV called the Journey, looks pretty ugly but it will eb real competition for the Rondo.
Amanti is doomed. That is very sad.
It is sad, but it will rise from its ashes. bring on a super coupe to replace it- that is what i am hoping for. The Amanti wasn’t designed for sale in the US and Kia doesn’t care if it sells here. They sell what like something lke over 20,000 in korea alone. It sells well everywhere else, just not in the US.
It’s true, the Amanti was developed mainly for South Korean market. And it sells good there. But will need a major transformation if it wans to succeede in US and especially in Europe!
I think that KIA needs to give careful thought to it`s intended “target market” with the Amanti in North America. In fact, there is a real problem beginning to emerge with Hyundai- Kia having difficulty differentiating their product in the large car, entry-luxury segment ( with the already mentioned Amanti; the Azera: and the future 6 cylinder version of the Genesis). Although many would quickly say the Genesis is sufficiently differentiated since it will be rear wheel driven with the V8 option, and more luxury features.
Whatever the targeted market, in my opinion the Amanti needs some dramatic exterior restyling to compete in North America.
Himi. a question for you on sales figures. Have you come across any up to date monthly or even quarterly sales figures for Kia vehicles in Canada ?
I have some information about Kia sales in Canada. But it’s difficult to find those nubers as Kia Canada doesn’t make any official monthly sales reports.
I know Kia is doing very well in Canda also with numbers of cars sold rising every month…
Here are the reports I found in the past:

Great information Himi . Thank you so much.
I concur with your suggestion that Kia is beginning a nice growth trend in Canada – but
am still amazed that the canadian public have been so slow to move towards the Magentis ( the one that I own :
The opirus cant sell well in place with so many Merc. I’m tlking about Dubai. Beemers, merc… these are top luxury cars here. Cant wait for Soul to come out!
Kia should re-design the Amanti and possible tone down the look of the grille a bit. Otherwise it’s a good car. Hyundai’s Genesis looks good–should sell fairly well–that will be an interesting rig to watch sales on in 2008. Supposedly the demand is really there for a great RWD luxury sedan–not my cup of tea but apparently there is a good demand for this size and type of car. We’ll see.
