Kia’s monthly sales figures update: Kia sales November 2012 figures

November 2011 marks another strong month for Kia Motors America as the carmaker reported a 39 percent gain in sales. Kia sold a total of 37.007 new vehicles in November, up from 26.601 units sold during the same month a year ago. Kia’s year-to-date sales are up 35 percent with sales totaling 442.102 units!

Leading Kia’s U.S. sales in November 2011 was the 2012 Kia Sorento CUV with 9.669 units sold. The popular mid-size crossover vehicle was closely followed by Optima mid-size sedan which experienced a tremendous growth in sales, especially when compared to its sales performance from a year ago.

During the month of November, Kia Optima sales jumped nearly sevenfold to 9.533 units. According to MotorTrend, the Optima was U.S. seventh most popular mid-size sedan in the States last month.

Third place last month went to Kia Soul crossover, which sold 6.865 units, while fourth was taken by Forte compact sedan. Sales for the Sportage crossover soared 75 percent, moving 3218 units off the lot compared to the 1850 units sold last November.

The all-new Kia Rio performed quite well in its first full month on the market. The Rio recorded sales of 2.159 units last month.

  1. Kia Canada had the best November ever, up 20.7% over November 2010. This makes 35 months of consecutive growth over the the year before. Also passed the 60,000 YTD figures for the first time in their 11 years in Canada. The Sorento was the best selling model. Soul up 30.9% over Nov 2010 (I helped with one with my purchase), Rio up 47.8% and the Sportage up 136%.

  2. Unrelated: I test-drove a Veloster yesterday. Wow, that is such a nice car! The 6 speed manual impressed me – a lot. The DCT absolutely sucked, though.

  3. Greg, I really like the new Hyundai Veloster, that is a prime example of a production car topping the look it had as a concept car. I like that back end, all up high like that, with the fake dual exhaust back there and all. The one rear door on the passenger side is kind of cool, too. I like that better than a coupe, yet one can still see the “coupe” in the design of the car overall. Ingenious! Hyundai’s new Elantra and not so much Sonata are starting to grow on me, but I still way prefer Kia models in all segments more than Hyundai. But the Veloster is unique, can’t wait for the Kia GT to come out!

  4. Yeah, you’d want to get the 6-speed standard transmission in your Veloster, unless for some reason you wanted to go automatic. We went automatic CVT transmission in our ’08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and, you know, I still love the paddle shifters and in little Kellogg, ID, I’m using them more and more to brake the car going down off-ramps from the expressway and even up Division Street and such. Love the paddle shifters on the automatic CVT Lancer GTS, way more than I ever thought I would. It’s already paid off to get an automatic, our son doesn’t know how to drive stick and I had to drive our stuff up here to northern Idaho from Elko, NV, in the U-Haul truck. He needed to drive the Lancer GTS as my wife doesn’t drive. So, my wife and I took the truck and he drove the Lancer GTS. He did a 180 on I-90 going up Lookout Pass from Montana in to Idaho. I had to keep going in the U-Haul or I wouldn’t have made it up the steep pass, I noticed the Lancer’s headlights disappear.

“Oh-oh, no Lancer headlights anymore, honey.”
    “What?”
“I don’t see the Lancer behind us any more…but I can’t stop! I’ll slide backwards” No joke, it was SLICK on I-90 westbound.

Later on in Kellogg he pulls up and said he did a complete 180 in the ice and snow and just sat there for a minute or so. A semi came up and had to brake and wait for him to get headed westward again! Yikes! But the point is, that helped us get our Lancer GTS up to northern Idaho, he doesn’t know how to drive stick but knows how to do 180’s…I…I mean drive an automatic!

  5. Does anybody have an idea when the Optima Hybrind is set to release in Texas?!! I’ve been waiting for it and no one seems to know when that’s going to happen!!

I want one soooo bad but i’m impatient… almost debating on getting the Optima SX 😉
