Kia sales news: Kia Sales USA 2012
I might change the car… lol… but it fits the image perfectly!!
🙂
Congrats to Kia and Hyundai as well for outperforming the Honda brand in the USA!!
I wish there wasn’t a Sportage shortage.
Kia could sell more Optimas if they had more capacity at the GA plant.
The Forte should see a big rise in sales (probably a few thousand short of Elantra monthly sales assuming Kia has the capacity in Korea) with the next gen model, once the new sedan, coupe and hatch are in place (I already would like to see the front fascia revised for the mid-cycle refresh, not to mention a completely new dash design); and my preference would be to bring the cee’d 5-door (which, btw, has the better greenhouse than the pro_cee’d) over as the Forte hatch as Hyundai has done with the i30.
Rio sales are pretty much where they are going to be considering subcompact sales in the US (likely will see some increase going forward, but nothing drastic).
Sportage sales don’t look great, but probably a combination of a supply shortage and the fact that the Sportage (like the Tuscon) is a bit small for the US market since it is geared more for the Euro market where it does really well. For the 1st 7 months of 2012, 52,996 Sportages were sold in Europe. In comparison 22,070 RAV-4s and 19,858 CR-Vs were sold. Sales of the Sportage should improve once it goes thru it MCE (an upgraded dash and a more refined suspension tuning should be the priorities).
The Sedona is pretty self-explanatory.
As far as the Sorento, it’s still selling well altho sales are slightly down. The refresh should help (like some the things done, some things not so much), but the Sorento and esp. the new Santa Fe will be limited due to capacity issues. Sales of the new SF will far exceed what the allotted capacity it gets at the Kia GA plant and there really isn’t any excess capacity in Korea either, esp. with the LWB SF yet to arrive.
Hyundai and Kia need another plant in the US – maybe one which could build both versions of the SF and the Sorento. This would the give Kia room at the GA plant to build the Forte in the US as well as increase Optima production.
Future sales growth will also come from new models such as the Cadenza and the Quoris (hopefully, the GT will be confirmed once and for all and join the list) and possibly new variations (apparently, in addition to the GT, Schreyer is still pushing for the Track’ster Soul variant), as well as completely redone Sedona.
Kia needs a larger 3-row CUV and they should do what Hyundai did and offer the next gen Sorento in both SWB and LWB forms.
Is Kia Optima already among the top 15 or 20 best selling vehicles in the USA?
I personally like the older Malibu. The newest version of the Malibu is so boring, it’s sickening. The last model was more visually appealing, too.
The Optima is a looker! No wnders it’s been selling so well! Other competitive nameplates already have a reputation with the consumers in the USA, while Optima is practically a new vehicle…
i agree with bd. i have been saying they need to build 3rd plant for years. ceo chung being stubborn by holding up the factory and squeezing more out of current factory. by adding 3rd shift and all but how stupid is it to lose sales by not having enough products? profit? yea right. they’re missing out big time here. i know jpn will stage a comeback this year but it doesnt matter if the demand is still there and expect bigger and better models coming then u need to prepare and build another factory. forte and soul sholudl be built here. if forte sells like elantra say 15k a month then they need another factory. this is so stupid . need 3rd factory now. china has like how many? sux that i hardly see any forte or sportage on the road when there should be more of them.
The KIA Optima is more superior than the Chrysler 200 by a mile the Sonata is too. Hyundai and KIA= eat Chrysler’s lunch dinner and breakfast.
Americans should protest all companies by not buying their SUVs until they bring Diesels to America. I love the smell of Diesel, unlike most people. Sorento and Sportage deserve only 500-1000 sales a month until these companies get their act together on these SUVs. There should be no reason why the Sportage and Tucson doen’t have the 1.6 FDI Turbo as an option.
You will see more diesels in the United States when Euroupe matches our emissions on diesels. Right now it costs more to meet EPA emissions here in US for diesels.
Don’t worry the Japanese will just copy the Koreans and sell a boat load of cars… It’s quite shameful but,
that what Mazda, Honda, and Toyota.. The only Japanese Company that I have respect left for is Subaru and
Suzuki… It’s apalling how blatant the copying is..
I also hope that Hyundai and Kia also stop Copying and use their imagination for car designs…
You know something called inspiration and creativity?? It takes a dose of will power, ability, most importantly
not poisoning yourself and dumbing yourself down
Kia has used won more automotive design awards than any automakers during the past couple of years.
And Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, Aston Martin, Volvo, Opel, etc. – have all lifted design cues from Hyundai.
Btw, as the Japanese Big 3 are all going towards using CVTs, H/K are developing more DCTs.
Kia Canada had another record month, now 45 consecutive months of sales growth. They were up 10.1% over September 2011 and there YTD is up 19.4%
Top seller was the Forte followed by the Sorento and then the Rio. They also stated that the all-new Rondo will be launched next year, as a Canadian-specific model.
“Subaru reallY? You think Subaru is orignal? Ignorign that the Forester is really a baby Kia Borrego with the 2007 Outlander’s front end. Ignoring that the Legacy’s side profile ripped of the 2009 Accord’s. Ignoring that the new Impreza hatch ripped off more of the Civic than the 2010 Kia Forte did. But since Subaru ain’t Korean, only the Forte got the sentence, “they ripped off the Civic” which all it has are the headlights which is a small portion of the horizantal headlights. Where as the Suburu just stright up copied the whole Civic’s greenhouse. But since it’s not Korean it can get away with it. Well damn, that’ Subaru’s whole line up”
If what you are saying is true,, i didn’t know subaru was ripping off other peoples’ designs. However I don’t see
absolutely blatant copying that Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura, and Mazda is currently engaging in. Did you see the new Mazda 6? it’s a blatant rip off of Andre Hudsons’ 2010 Hyundai Sonata.
